An “invitation to travel” into the music and poetry of Franco Battiato, musician, artist and

intellectual, inspiration for many generations, icon of Italian music and culture.

Carla Regina, singer, actress and theatre maker, presents us with a new project.

A musical project dedicated to Franco Battiato, musician, intellectual and all-round artist, icon of Italian music and culture.

The project traces Battiato’s career, choosing from the titles of the vast catalogue of his musical and artistic production, placing the emphasis on:

the more “commercial” production of the 80s/90s/00s, a symbol of more than one generation.

– the production dedicated to three different but equally extraordinary voices, Giuni Russo, Milva,  Alice.

– the production resulting from the artist’s interest in his land, and his interest with the Arab world.

– the production of recent years that explores a more spiritual and mystical dimension.

The show, while highlighting the musical part, has also a theatrical aspect given by Battiato’s own words linking the different musical parts.

On stage, in addition to Carla Regina:

Maestro Michele Fedrigotti, renowned pianist, composer, arranger and conductor, collaborator of Franco Battiato and arranger of the album “Fleur”.

Maestro Claudio Mastrangelo, cellist and violist da gamba with an intense concert activity, currently first cello of the Magna Grecia Orchestra.

The young violinist Damian Cabedo, a Spanish talent based in the Netherlands.

The concert/show is produced by the Voice, Actually Foundation, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Amsterdam.

The show

Carla Regina in a new music theatre concept with Italy as main inspiration and theme.

The story of this country, told by Italy itself in music and words. and live sketching.
On stage, the singer/performer , the live sketching illustrator  Jennifer Lewis, and two musicians: Antonio Allemanno, cello and double-bass and Emiliano Roca, guitar.

“Mi chiamo Italia“ (My name is Italy) is the story of Italy, told by Italy itself.

Looking back at its rich and glorious past, Italy takes us through it, victories,  failures, people, places.

A tale full of iconic milestones of Italy’s history, a tale which sounds familiar to Italians and lovers of Italy and Italian culture.

The story, as usually happens in Carla’s projects, is enriched  by a versatile repertoire full of classics of Italian music : Giuseppe Verdi, Fabrizio  De Andre’, Antonio Vivaldi, Renato Zero.

The total picture on stage is enhanced by the live sketching by Jennifer Lewis. Her illustrations describe  the emotions and the situations of the music and the story.
